Privacy and Cookies Statement

The Center of Expertise on Research Integrity and Open Science (RIOS) processes personal data to:

  • Respond to your questions when you have contacted RIOS;
  • Organise meetings and other research activities (e.g. symposia);
  • Ensure the proper functioning of the RIOS website

RIOS has its formal seat in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and is bound by the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Our legal basis in the sense of the GDPR for the purposes mentioned above is the legitimate interest of the center to further its mission at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and Amsterdam UMC.

When you register as a participant in a RIOS activity (e.g. Community of Practice, Research Symposium), your personal data will be used for the purpose of the activity. RIOS will keep personal data for a maximum of four years after your last attendance at one of RIOS’s activities.

RIOS’s website will only use cookies that are necessary for the proper functioning of the website or for generating basic statistics with Google Analytics. More specifically, no data are shared with Google. Additionally, the data are processed anonymously and will not be used for marketing purposes.

Specific activities may apply during a meeting or event, such as taking photographs or videotaping parts of a session. You will be duly informed on the registration form or the specific event. If, for any reason, you do not want to be photographed or videotaped, you can contact the coordinator and/or project leader of RIOS.

You have the right to object to the processing of your personal data and to obtain information upon request, such as which personal data RIOS processes about you, to have those data corrected if they are inaccurate, or to have them erased when they are no longer necessary for the purposes for which they were collected or if one of the other conditions mentioned in article 17 of the GDPR applies.

Please inform the RIOS if you have questions about your data, rights or otherwise. The email address is: info@rios-vu.nl. Complaints can be made to the Dutch Data Protection Authority.
